Joyce Ruth Burgett passed away at the age of 86 on Dec.14, 2023 due to complications of vascular dementia.
Joyce is survived by her husband Paul of Springfield, Ore., daughter Stacey Burgett of Redmond, Ore.; and daughter Heather Alexander, son-in-law Lafe and grandson Adam all of Meadow Valley, Calif.
Born to parents Walter and Alice Schlachter on March 9, 1937 in Santa Ana, Calif., Joyce grew up in the Thurston area and graduated from Springfield High School in 1955.
Joyce began her working career in 1957 with Pacific Bell Telephone Company (eventually became AT&T) and retired after 31 years. After leaving AT&T she would enjoy many years working for Gray’s Garden Center and later Territorial Seed Company.
Joyce married Paul in February of 1967 in Reno, Nev. They were married 56 years before she passed. During their married life they enjoyed bowling leagues, square dancing troupes, camping, traveling with friends, tending to their wonderful home in Pleasant Hill and supporting their daughters in 4-H with raising livestock and riding horses.
Gardening was one of the many and favorite hobbies Joyce enjoyed. When she wasn’t working she would be in her beloved gardens tending to the roses, fruits, vegetables and many varieties of flowers. Over the years she would also enjoy making dolls, scrap-booking and photography. Joyce also volunteered for Food for Lane County and the Jasper Christian Church — where she was also a member.
To honor Joyce’s life, a memorial will be held on Saturday, March 16, 2024 at 1 p.m. in Jasper, Ore. at the Jasper Christian Church. In lieu of flowers please consider donating to Food for Lane County, Heal Our Patriots or Jasper Christian Church.
