First-ever Disability Pride Awareness event a success

EUGENE — On Saturday, Eugene hosted its first Disability Pride Awareness Festival. Springfield’s Melinda Preciado, Ms. Wheelchair Oregon USA, organized the event with the help from the City of Eugene Adaptive Recreation, Kathy Rasmussen of Breakthrough Co Lab, Trish DeBaun, and Sofia Dumitru.

Keynote speaker Jane Kammerzelt discussed the history of disability and adaptability, and Preciado touched on difficult topics around living with a disability and bringing awareness to the community on adaptability for all. Preciado is heading to Ohio in July to represent Oregon as she competes for the National Title of Ms. Wheelchair USA.

Rachael Landi, sales and marketing director for The Chronicle, keynote speaker Jane Kammerzelt of Great Teams International, and Paula Free, owner of Power on With Limb Loss.
