Softball

Cottage Grove: The Lions had a tough week, going 0-3 against the top two teams in the Sky-Em League. Last Tuesday Cottage Grove fell to No. 9 Marshfield 12-1, then fell in a doubleheader against No. 12 North Bend on Friday 11-1 and 18-5. The final game was Cottage Grove’s best offensively, as senior Josie Hitt had 1 hit, 2 runs and 1 RBI, and Kylee Cordin scored twice as well.

Creswell: Creswell dominated a series against La Pine, winning 16-0, 12-2 and 16-1 to keep pace atop the Mountain Valley Conference. Ashelyn Sharkey was the star of the week for the Bulldogs, finishing the three games with a total of 8 hits, 6 runs and 9 RBIs. Hope Ukolov had a solid week on the mound as well, winning game one with 5 Ks and game two with only 6 hits allowed.

Pleasant Hill: Pleasant Hill had a huge week offensively, winning three games against Elmira 25-13, 14-4 and 14-2. Shyanne Fenley had an absurd game one, finishing with 5 hits, 5 runs and 9 RBIs, including two different grand slams. Fenley had 3 hits and 3 runs in game two as well, while Kendall Carey had 4 hits, 3 runs and 2 RBIs.

Springfield: The Millers fell in a series to No. 20 Ashland, losing the three games 16-0, 16-2 and 20-3. Holly Arendt had a solid game two and three, finishing with 2 hits, 1 run and 1 RBI in game two and a three-run home run in game three.

Thurston: Thurston had an important series last week against No. 14 Eagle Point, and went 1-2 in the series. The Colts won game one at home last Tuesday 11-4 before falling at Eagle Point in a doubleheader on Friday, 15-5 and 11-1. Syren Ferguson and Gabriella Montes led the way in the sole win. Ferguson had 3 hits, 3 runs and 1 RBI, while Montes finished with 2 hits, 2 runs and 3 RBIs.

Baseball

Cottage Grove: The Lions had two doublheaders last week, beating Illinois Valley on Wednesday 14-6 and 10-9 before losing on Friday against North Bend 8-3 and 11-5. In game one against IV Micah Spear led the way with 3 hits, 3 runs and 2 RBIs, and brother Christian had 3 hits and 2 runs in game two. Freshman Hunter Rhodes chipped in 4 hits and 3 RBIs in game two as well. In game two of the NB series, Micah Spear finished with 2 hits and 2 runs.

Creswell: Creswell had a tough week, getting swept in a series by No. 10 La Pine, losing the games 11-0, 9-1 and 22-6. Deacon Edwards had a solid game three, ending with 1 hit, 1 run and 1 RBI. 

Pleasant Hill: The Billies went 2-1 in a series against Elmira, winning games one (3-1) and three (12-1), but losing game two (13-10). Caden Richardson started on the mound in game one and recorded 13 Ks, while also getting 2 hits and 1 run on offense. In the game three win, Richardson had 1 hit, 2 runs and 2 RBIs, while Alejandro Ziolkowski pitched all 5 innings and had 7 Ks.

Springfield: Springfield fell in all three games of a series against No. 13 Ashland, losing 10-0, 8-0 and 12-0. Zack Sherman was the highlight of the series for the Millers, getting on base in all three games.

Thurston: Thurston extended its winstreak to 17 games, the longest winstreak in Class 5A. The Colts beat No. 17 Eagle Point 9-4, 10-0 and 8-2. In game one Maddox Molony had a two-run home run, while Grady Saunders had 9 Ks, 2 hits and 2 RBIs. Connor Molony got the start in game two, pitching all 6 innings and recording 6 Ks and allowing only 2 hits. Eli Crist had 3 hits and 4 RBIs on offense. Game three went to 9 innings, with the Colts scoring 6 runs to secure the win. Saunders had 2 hits and 1 RBI to help lead the way.
