Letter to the editor: CG Police coverage demonstrates importance of local news

Dear Editor:

Congratulations to journalist Ryleigh Norgrove and the entire Chronicle staff for the fine reporting and persistent investigation that revealed the story behind the resignations of former Cottage Grove Police Chief Scott Shepherd and Captain Conrad Gagner (Extremely unacceptable behavior led to Cottage Grove PD resignations, March 9, 2023).

I was pleased to meet Ryleigh Norgrove at the opening of The Chronicle’s Springfield office shortly after she began her position and thought at the time that she seemed like a very promising addition to the staff. This type of long-form investigative reporting is precisely why I financially support The Chronicle and I’m so very pleased to see this kind of work being done in our community.

Keep up the good work.

John F. Helmer, Eugene
