Boys Basketball Recaps

Cottage Grove: The Lions went 1-1 last week, beating North Bend 45-44 before losing to No. 3 Junction City 62-36. While Junction City remains the clear favorite to win the league title, Cottage Grove currently sits in second because of the win over North Bend, and thus based on current standings would have a home play-in game come postseason time.

Creswell: The Bulldogs had two solid Mountain Valley Conference wins last week, beating No. 12 Harrisburg 43-33 and La Pine 61-36. Max Velarde continued to step up big, scoring 22 points and grabbing 5 rebounds and 5 steals against Harrisburg. Velarde followed that up with 14 points and 4 steals in the win against La Pine.

Pleasant Hill: The Billies went 1-0 in league play last week, beating La Pine 74-53 despite a first-half injury to star Gavin Inglish. Inglish went down at the beginning of the second quarter after a transition dunk and sat the rest of the game, although coach Darwin Terry said Inglish is okay. Inglish and freshman Landen Melvin both had 16 points to lead all scorers, while Brooks Wilcox added 14 points and Matthew Nguyen chipped in 12.

Springfield: The Millers had a tough 0-3 week with all away games, losing to rival No. 13 Thurston 57-41, Eagle Point 44-35, and Crescent Valley 47-39. Against Thurston Isaiah Navarrete led the way with 14 points and sophomore Vincent Trinka added 9. Navarrete led the against Eagle Point as well with 9 points and 5 rebounds and Owen Fuller chipped in 6 points.
