Alen R. Bahret

June 17, 1962 – Dec. 20, 2022

Alen R. Bahret of Springfield passed away Dec. 20, 2022. He was 60. Alen was born in Santa Ana, Calif. on June 17, 1962, to Donald R. and Arline M. (Martinson) Bahret.

Alen lived in Santa Ana, Calif., Eugene and Springfield, Oregon. He graduated from Thurston High School and then attended Lane Community College and then received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Oregon in business. Alen retired after 40 years as a programmer at Lane Community College.

Alen enjoyed traveling to many places in the U.S., hiking and camping with family and friends. The highlight for him was a trip to Norway in 2018. Music was a big part of Alen’s life, singing in the praise team at his church. Also, playing the trombone in the UO marching band.

Alen joined the Lane County Sheriff’s Office Family in July of 1989 as a Reserve Deputy Sheriff. Alen rode at least once a week, often more, and eventually earned his solo status as a Reserve Deputy. In March of 2011 Alen was promoted to Reserve Sergeant. Alen gave thousands of hours of his time to this organization, both in his service on patrol, and in his service as the coordinator of the local Reserve Academy.

He is survived by his mother, Arline and Aunt Evelyn and Uncle Walt Schneider and numerous cousins preceded in death by his father, Donald.

A graveside service will be held Jan. 28 at Camp Creek Cemetery at 11 a.m. with a memorial service to follow at 1 p.m. at Hope Lutheran Church in Springfield.
