Ronald Gene Barrowcliff of Marcola, Ore. passed away peacefully on Oct. 15, 2022. He was 77 years old. Ron was born on Feb. 15, 1945 to Jack and Lucille Barrowcliff in Eugene, Ore.
Ron’s family moved from Junction City to Marcola in 1951. He attended Marcola Elementary and graduated from Mohawk High School in 1963 where he lettered in all sports.
After high school Ron attended Oregon Technical Institute in Klamath Falls, Ore., receiving an Associates Degree in Diesel Technology. After graduation, he joined the US Navy, Seabee’s Division, and was stationed in Okinawa then went on to serve in Vietnam. He was honorably discharged in 1969.
On Sept. 6, 1969 Ron married Bonnie Callaghan in Eugene. They enjoyed 53 years together.
Ron worked for Howard Cooper and then Triad Machinery as a heavy equipment mechanic where he picked up the nickname “Moe.” He retired after 42 years. He also served on the Marcola School Board for 14 years.
Ron enjoyed fishing and hunting, especially his annual elk hunting trips to Eastern Oregon with family. He loved to watch John Wayne movies and read Zane Grey novels.
Ron was an avid Oregon Duck fan with season tickets to men’s basketball for many years. Most of all he loved spending time with his kids and grandkids.
Ron is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife Bonnie; his son Brian and wife Cheri, his son Russell and wife Alisha; four grandchildren Brandon and wife Christiana, Addison and Carson; three great grandchildren Gannon, Bodee and Stetson; brothers Dick, Jack and Jim; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held Nov. 4 at 1 p.m. at the Marcola Christian Church.
