Donald “Don” Wayne Hargrave, 87, of Cottage Grove, Ore. passed peacefully in his sleep on Friday, Sept. 23, 2022 with his loving wife Abilene Mae Hargrave (Heath) at his side.
He is survived by his daughter Becky, his sisters Elva, Manda and Patsy, his wife Abilene and many stepchildren, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his father Robert Hargrave, mother Clyde Hargrave (Miller), his brother Bobby, and his son Skip.
Don was born on Dec. 10, 1934, in Holston, Va., and grew up in North Carolina and Pennsylvania. Don moved with his first wife Wanda Hargrave (Foster) and their son Donald Wayne Hargrave Jr. (Skip), to Southern California where their daughter Rebecca (Becky) was born.
Don eventually became an instrument technician for Southern California Edison, an electric company he worked at for many years. He moved to Oregon in 1991 where he met his wife Abilene (Heath) while Square Dancing. They spent many happy years dancing all over the state and country. He also enjoyed spending time with his Foursquare Church community and working with youth. Using his tractor on his 40 acres was another of his favorite things to do.
A Remembrance Service will be held at the Cottage Grove Faith Center on Row River Road on Saturday, Nov. 5 from 1 to 3 p.m. This service is for all who would like to share stories with family and friends. In lieu of flowers or gifts, donations can be made to the Emerald Square Dance Center in Springfield. Services by Smith-Lund-Mills Funeral Chapel and Crematorium.
