The week ahead: Fall sports

VOLLEYBALL

■ No. 5 Creswell has its final two road games of the season this week, both rematches of earlier-season games. The Bulldogs face No. 11 Siuslaw on Tuesday before traveling to No. 1 Sisters next Thursday. Sisters handed the Bulldogs a 3-1 loss earlier in the season despite a 21-kill game from Lizabelle Osborn.

■ No. 11 Thurston faces two top-20 teams this week. The Colts host No. 20 Churchill tonight and travel to No. 10 North Eugene next Thursday.

■ Cottage Grove finds itself in an interesting situation. Despite being 2-11, the Lions are fully in contention for the playoffs heading into their three matchups this week against No. 1 Marshfield, No. 11 North Bend and Junction City.

■ Springfield will look to turn its season around late after a loss to rival Thurston last week. The Millers have a busy schedule this week, hosting No. 10 North Eugene tonight, traveling to Ashland on Tuesday and hosting No. 20 Churchill next Thursday.

BOYS SOCCER

■ No. 11 Cottage Grove has two games it should win, one at Marshfield on Tuesday and then at home against North Bend next Thursday.

■ No. 15 Pleasant Hill finds itself upbeat in the last seven games, and has two games it should win this week against Siuslaw and La Pine. Senior forward Adrian Arellano has been the star so far for the Billies, and that should hold through the end of the fall.

GIRLS SOCCER

■ Cottage Grove faces two top 20 opponents this week, at No. 11 Marshfield Tuesday before hosting No. 18 North Bend next Thursday.

■ Creswell has two league rematches this week. The Bulldogs travel to No. 4 Central Linn in an attempt to get revenge for a 2-0 loss before hosting Elmira, who Creswell beat 7-2 last time out.

■ No. 9 Pleasant Hill has finally cracked the top 10, and head coach Chris Hammond has his team rolling. The Billies have games this week against Siuslaw and La Pine, and they should win both.

SOCCER RIVALRY WEEK

■ Wednesday, Oct. 12 includes a Springfield at Thurston soccer doubleheader. The girls teams will face off first as No. 12 Springfield looks to take down No. 5 Thurston at 4 p.m. Then the boys will face off as Thurston looks to upset No. 13 Springfield.
