Hedwig Magdalena Roessle

Sept. 11, 1936 – Sept. 11, 2022

Hedwig “Heidi” or “Oma” Magdalena Roessle, 86, of Cottage Grove, Ore. passed away on Sept. 11, 2022. Hedwig was born Sept. 11, 1936, to parents Karl Koch and Margaretha (Eulberg) Koch in Sainerholz, Germany.

She worked as a seamstress and made many beautiful gowns and other clothing throughout the years. She loved plants, flowers, and nature. Her family affectionately called her a “free range grandmother” as she was very active on her property until close to the end. She loved to have her grandkids near her, to play with and give tight snuggles and love. She was an excellent baker and made amazing cookies. She spoiled her family for years with authentic German meals. As a retired seamstress, she still would occasionally sew things like blankets for new grandchildren or knit or crochet blankets. In her final years, she crocheted many blankets and scarves where some were donated to the homeless in Cottage Grove last winter.

Hedwig married Gregor Max Roessle on Dec. 26, 1956. They were married a few days shy of 64 years before his passing. She is survived by grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Jeanet Campbell, Daniel Campbell, Asher Campbell, Diane Campbell, Gracen Campbell, Evan Cote, Owen Cote. Hedwig was preceded in death by husband Gregor Roessle and daughters Gabrielle Roessle and Eva Roessle Cote.

Her ashes will be commingled with her husband, Gregor Roessle. At a later date, their ashes will be released at sea, so they can continue their many trips together. Services were held at the Cottage Grove Armory.
