CRESWELL BULLDOGS 47, JEFFERSON LIONS 7

What2Know:
The Bulldogs won at Jefferson for the second year in a row, and dominated on both sides of the ball Friday. Creswell recorded 309 yards of total offense and six interceptions for the defense. Creswell took an early lead, scoring 21 points in the first quarter. The Bulldogs kicked off their scoring with a 27-yard TD run by senior QB Connor Hanson. Hanson followed that up with another TD, this time 26 yards, before senior Jack Nguyen scored on a 53-yard run. The Bulldogs kept the ball rolling on both sides in the second quarter as Hanson threw two TD passes, an 11-yarder to junior Tyler Bowers and a 5-yarder to junior Jaydon Warthen. The Bulldog defense then joined the scoring party as Nguyen picked off the ball and returned it 28 yards for the score, giving Creswell a 40-0 lead at half. The game slowed down in the second half as the Bulldogs would score only once – an 11-yard TD pass from sophomore QB Darien Dewey to Bowers. The Lions would finally score in the fourth quarter, robbing the Bulldogs of a shutout.

Quotable: “Our guys came ready to play. We prepared and practiced well all week … putting up 47 in our first game of the season was awesome. I like where we are at after game 1 this season,” head coach Scott Worsham.

What2Know: The Millers won their season opener against a talented Ravens team. Springfield was looking to lean on its junior class this season, and that was exactly what happened Friday. Junior QB Caeleb Kasperek threw two TD passes to senior Dwayne Fotta for the Millers, while junior RB/DB Jackson Babbitt scored twice on fumble returns and rushed for 100 yards and another score. The Millers have high hopes this season, and an opening win against a playoff team from last season should be a confidence booster for a team that’s looking to make the playoffs themselves.
