George Albert “Al” Palmer, 76, of Creswell, Ore., passed away peacefully in his sleep on August 2, 2022.
Al was born to parents Calvin and Lucille Palmer on October 24, 1945, in Cottage Grove, Ore. He and his sister, JoAnn, grew up in Creswell. After graduating from Creswell High School, Al joined the Air Force and was honorably discharged after four years of service.
After serving in the Air Force, Al moved to Boise, Idaho, taking a job as the manager of Refrigeration Supplies Distributor where he worked for over 30 years until he retired. While living in Idaho, he met and later married Patricia Barnes of Boise on March 4, 1972. Together, they had two daughters and one son: Jeannie, Ami, and Travis.
Al was a devoted father who loved spending time with his kids. He enjoyed bowling, fishing, camping and rock hounding. In their youth, he took his children on countless trips around the states of Idaho and Oregon to enjoy the great outdoors.
After his children grew up and left home, Al moved back to Creswell, Ore. to help care for his aging father, Calvin Palmer. After Cal passed away, Al lived in Creswell for the remainder of his life, often making trips to Idaho to visit his children and friends.
Al is survived by his three children Jeannie Johnston, Ami Reno, and J. Travis Palmer, his sister JoAnn Napper, grandchildren Nathan, Sean, Josiah, Arielle, Rileigh, Miles, Julia, and Alex, great-grandchildren Everleigh and Oaklyn, nieces Jill Napper, and Raina Napper, and nephew Edward Napper. He was preceded in death by his parents, Calvin and Lucille Palmer.
A memorial service will take place at the Creswell Community Center on September 4, at 4 p.m. Another Memorial service will take place in Idaho on August 28, at the home of Ami Reno. Contact info for the Palmer family and Idaho service can be attained through Smith-Lund-Mills Funeral Chapel.
