Jerrold “Jerry” Wayne Gates, 76, of Cottage Grove, Ore., passed away peacefully at home on May 27, 2022. Jerry was born on July 10, 1945 to Wayne and Thelma (Merrel) Gates. He graduated high school and served in the United States Air Force. Jerry married Sandra Joan Boyd and they were married 56 years. Jerry was a proud business owner of Gates Tradition Meat Company. When he wasn’t working you could find him on his John Deere mowing grass. He built a covered picnic area and playground because he enjoyed family gatherings. Jerry was a longtime member of the Elks Lodge and Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. Jerry is survived by his wife, Sandi; two sons Gary and Alan; one daughter Shannon and five grandchildren; Tanner, Travis, Gunner, Hannah and Jacksonn; and four great grandchildren; Madilynn, Grayson, Cayden and Carter; Jerry is also survived by his sister Evelyn Shrock, all of Cottage Grove. Jerry is preceded in death by both his parents and sister Betty Black. A celebration of life will be held on June 19 at his home.
