Creswell High School Boosters honor Davis during event

CRESWELL – The Creswell High School Athletic Hall of Fame will induct its newest member on Saturday at the 16th Annual Creswell Boosters Sports Auction. The lone inductee this year is Dan Davis, who still holds the Creswell High School long jump record of 22 feet, 7 inches – that he set in 1967.

Davis also coached the freshman basketball team at Creswell High School – which included a notable alum, Mark Few.

Greg Menegat, a member of the inaugural class of 2012 and is head of the HOF today, will be on hand to help induct Davis.

“(Dan’s) just a good guy, and he’s been like a pillar of the community, you know,” Menegat said. “And it’s worth celebrating.”

This will mark the first time that the auction and the HOF induction will take place at the same event.

“I think it’s a really neat thing to bring the past, you know, to introduce it to the folks that are present, especially the kids,” he said.

The booster club’s annual event, at the CHS gym, raises money for athletic teams and scholarships.

“Their auction is really important because they fund a lot of this,” Menegat said. “They make 10s of 1,000s of dollars in this event to fund the stuff that, if you think about it, keeps the kids in sports.”

The funding for youth sports is something Menegat said is important beyond the field of play.

“It’s not just about the athletics. It’s about the mentorship and about developing people that will go on and succeed,” he said.
