First baseman Jeff Fripp slugged two home runs and three doubles, pacing the Bushnell Beacons to a four-game weekend sweep over visiting Corban University as league play opened for both teams.

After scoring 25 runs during Friday’s twinbill sweep, 15-5 and 10-7, the Beacons (6-19, 4-0) used the pitching of Abbott Haffar to secure a 4-1 victory in the opener of Saturday’s doubleheader. Haffar blanked Corban for 7 1/3 innings before yielding an RBI single in the 8th. Fripp then homered in the bottom of the eighth for the final 4-1 margin.

Fripp enjoyed a huge weekend, clubbing 2 homers and 3 doubles while going 8-for-17.

Freshman Jameson Hussey paced the Beacons’ 9-7 victory in the fourth and final game of the weekend with a homer and 2 doubles.

“We finally got almost all of our guys healthy again,” Beacons assistant coach Jamie Womack said. “It’s fun watching them, as a first-year program, create their own culture here and that’s what we’re doing.

“That’s the first step. Now we have to show that we can keep it going.”

After a Tuesday road game at Western Oregon, the Beacons were slated to visit Eastern Oregon for doubleheaders on Saturday and Sunday.
