Dellas Estelle Weeks McCan: June 14, 1936 – Feb. 17, 2022

Dellas Estelle Weeks McCan passed away Feb. 17, 2022, at home with her daughters by her side. She was born in Dexter, Maine. June 14, 1936 to Leroy and Gladys (York) Weeks and was adored by her brothers Robert, Arley, Philip and Norman. Her father passed away in 1941 and in 1943 her mother moved her “rowdy bunch” to South Lancaster, Maine. where she attended South Lancaster Academy and received her degree from Atlantic Union College.

In March of 1958 she found the love of her life, Donald McCan, a soldier stationed at Fort Devens. They met when he asked her to skate with him and while they dated, if he couldn’t catch a ride, he would run the eight miles to her house. Don sold his skates to obtain their marriage license and on Oct. 18, 1958, they eloped in Nashua, N.H. A church ceremony followed on Feb. 14, 1959 in South Lancaster with friends and family present to share in their happiness.

In 1968 the family moved to Oregon where Don made a career in construction. Dellas held a variety of business jobs including running the office of Acoustical Tile Systems Inc., which she co-owned with Don. Her favorite job however was as the librarian at Emerald Christian Academy in Pleasant Hill. She loved working with the children, including at various times there, with her own children, her grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

She is survived by her daughters; Kathleen McCan, Dale and her husband Don Moore, and Jeanette McCan, grandchildren; Robert and Dennis McCan (Gabrielle), Glenn Moore (Ginger) and Jessica Bookout (Brandon), and Nicole Lockard (Justin), great-grandchildren; Kayanna, Levi, James, Madison, Isabella, Brenna, Jacob, Alistair, Kyle, Aiden, Kate, Logan and Charlotte.

Dellas was a lifelong Seventh-day Adventist who looked forward to the day of resurrection at Christ’s return to be reunited with those who passed before her and those she leaves behind. Until then: “We love you, we’ll see you tomorrow, and goodnight.”

Memorial donations may be made to Emerald Christian Academy 35582 Zephyr Way, Pleasant Hill, OR 97455.
