Aurora “A. J.” Jackson, general manager of Lane Transit District, has submitted a letter of resignation, effective Sept. 7, she announced at this week’s public board meeting.
Jackson has been general manager since 2015 and is the agency’s sixth general manager.
She began her career at Montebello as a bus operator. She was the assistant transportation manager for two divisions of the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority, before returning to Montebello in 2008 to serve as its general manager.
Jackson was among speakers at the July 14 event where Pete Buttigieg, the U.S. Secretary of Transportation, and Congressman Peter DeFazio (D-Springfield), drove one of its electric buses in the parking lot and held a conference to emphasize the benefits of infrastructure investments and initiatives at the LTD Glenwood station.
“I ask that you embrace the values that have been developed by the employees and incorporated into our business plan. I assure you this will enable the LTD board of directors and employees to serve the community for the next 50 years,” Jackson said at tonight’s meeting.
“I am the last one on the board who hired you in the first place,” said board treasurer Don Nordin. “I thought we did a good hire then and I am sorry to see you go now. I wish you were continuing on but I wish you the best in your new endeavors.”
The open session was followed by an executive session to consider information or records that are exempt by law from public inspection. It is a closed meeting that bars the media from reporting.
