Creswell man guilty of child sex abuse

CRESWELL – William Hamann, 38, of Creswell on Jan. 19 pled guilty to sexually abusing a child, and federal prosecutors will seek a 13-year prison sentence.

According to court documents, in 2018 through July 2019, Hamann, a Spring Creek Elementary School teacher since 2008, on several occasions paid a minor 15-year-old girl for oral sex and recorded it. He was arrested in July 2019, after Eugene Police detectives and FBI agents caught him meeting the child for a fourth time, found video footage of the sex acts, and conversations on social media.

In August 2019, a federal grand jury in Eugene returned a four-count indictment charging Hamann with sexual exploitation and trafficking of a child, possession of child pornography, and attempted sex trafficking of a child. Hamann was also charged with multiple counts in Lane County Circuit Court, including sodomy and sex abuse.

Hamann will be sentenced on March 1, in which the U.S. Attorney’s Office will recommend a sentence of 13 years and four months in federal prison.

Prosecutors will pitch the sentence to be served consecutively with his one year and eight-month prison sentence in Lane County.

As part of the plea agreement, Hamann will also pay full restitution to his victim.

Lane County Sheriff Office: Deputies assigned to Creswell responded to 65 calls for service and conducted an additional 30 traffic stops and patrol checks within the city limits Jan. 11-17.

Many of the calls were related to traffic issues, disputes, and criminal mischief.
