Candidates file in CG, Springfield: SUB seats uncontested; Cottage Grove mayor and council spots on the ballot

Three seats will expire on the Springfield Utility Board (SUB) in November, and in Cottage Grove, the mayor and three council seats are up for grabs. 

The SUB positions to expire are held by David Willis, Robert Scherer and Pat Riggs-Henson. Incumbents Willis and Scherer are up for re-election. Riggs-Henson will not run again; Mark Molina, personal coach at Molina Leadership & Business Development Solutions, is running uncontested. 

In Cottage Grove, Mayor Jeff Gowing has competition for the mayor seat, and three seats are set to expire on city council. 

Chalice MP Savage is contesting for councilor Kenneth Michael Roberts’ at-large council position. Savage is the executive assistant and project manager at Blackstone Inc. and owns Snap Savage Photography. 

Councilor Greg Ervin is uncontested for his ward four spot. Jon Stinnett is running uncontested for the vacant ward two spot after Ashley Rigel withdrew her filing for the seat on Aug. 18. Stinnett is a freelance writer and formerly a reporter and editor for the Cottage Grove Sentinel from 2006-16. 

Ivan Del Sol is running against Mayor Gowing. Del Sol is a computer programmer and was formerly the executive director for the Opal Center for Arts and Education. He served on the Cottage Grove Budget Committee in 2010. 

The mayor’s position is a two-year term. Councilor and SUB positions are four-year terms.
