‘Tacos & Tequila’ festival canceled

Because of COVID-19, the 2nd annual Tacos & Tequila Festival, which had been scheduled to run today through Sunday, Aug. 9 at PublicHouse, has been scrapped.

“Unfortunately, we have canceled all of our large events for the year,” PublicHouse manager Brenna Foerster said. “We are currently just having live music featuring small acts every Wednesday.”

PublicHouse has been one of the only establishments in all of southern Lane County to provide live music. Blues-rocker Jimmy Haggard will grace the courtyard stage on Wednesday, Aug. 12 at 7 p.m.

During the age of the coronavirus, the Axe & Fiddle has abandoned music in favor of its other promotions – History Pub (1st Tuesday each month at 5 p.m.), Trivia Night (3rd Monday at 7), Science On Tap (4th Tuesday at 5) and Drag Brunch (4th Sunday at 10 a.m.).

Singer-songwriter Jarod Ray Kerney had been scheduled to play this Saturday night, Aug. 8, at The Brewstation, then he canceled his West Coast tour. The Brewstation has no other live events currently planned.

The curtain remains closed at the Cottage Theatre, but all of the shows on this year’s schedule will be reproduced once it’s safe to resume performances.

Here is this year’s schedule of Cottage Theatre plays: Arsenic and Old Lace (Jan. 31-Feb. 16), Mamma Mia (April 3-April 26), Seeking Red (June 5-June 21), You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown (Aug. 14-Aug. 30), The Hunchback of Notre Dame (Oct. 2-Oct. 25), Elf the Musical (Dec. 4-Dec. 20).

No more live music

at Saginaw Vineyard

They’ve pulled the plug on “Friday Night Live.”

After about a dozen years of hosting weekly live music, the owners at Saginaw Vineyard say they are retiring.

“It was a hard decision to make, but we’ve decided to retire,” said Karen Proden, who owns the establishment along with her husband Scott.

For those who love the Vineyard for its food and drink options, those are all still available. “We’re just stopping the music … nothing else changes,” Proden said.

Part of the reason is COVID-19.

“But we’re just getting too old and it’s a lot of work to host a show,” Proden said. “Then you have to wear a mask and you’re changing gloves all the time … it’s frustrating. It kind of takes the fun out of your job.”
