CHS 69, Santiam Christian 54
The skinny: With eight of their 12 players being seniors, the Bulldogs came out with what some might call pre-game jitters, allowing Santiam Christian to take the lead for the majority of the first half. Being down by seven, 31-24 at halftime Creswell came out and went on a 14-2 run and took the lead only two minutes into the second half. The Bulldogs never looked back as Santiam Christian only got as close as four points for the rest of the game. Seniors led CHS as Tyler Frieze scored 32 points, Dallton Dewey had 15 points and Kai Apo had 11 points.
Coach speaks: ”They had our number in the first half but you can tell they aren’t used to playing at that tempo for an entire game. Between that and the competitive nature of the seniors we have, I wasn’t too worried about the second half.”
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Wednesday, Feb. 19
Santiam Christian 50, CHS 39
The skinny: Only down by eight at the end of the first quarter, Creswell had broken their bad habit of ending the first eight minutes being down by double digits. With two seniors Makaela Seiber and Kylee Whitson starting at their last game as Creswell Bulldogs, the team didn’t just start with determination, they ended with it as well. Being down by 24 at the end of the third quarter, the Bulldogs came back with fire in the last few minutes of the game, ending their season with a 13-0 run. Brea Dapron ended the game with another double-double of 11 points and 10 rebounds while Emme Whitson added 10 points and four rebounds for the Bulldogs. Dapron ended the season averaging a double-double with 13 points and 14 rebounds per game.
Coach speaks: ”It was a nice ending to the game. Now we just want to come out next year and start the season 13-0,” said head coach Tyler Hollingsworth.
