CRESWELL – Sixteen hole sponsors are already onboard, and excitement is building among local sports fans and golf enthusiasts for this year’s Big Dawg Golf Tournament, a fundraiser supporting Creswell High School’s athletics program.Sponsorship or participation in the annual tournament, slated for Saturday, Sept. 28 at Emerald Valley Golf Course, ”helps ensure the continued athletic tradition in Creswell,” said Lori Leavitt, president of the CHS Athletics Booster Club, which organizes the event.Noting that the Boosters help purchase needed equipment, supplies, uniforms and more for Bulldog sports teams and award two $500 scholarships annually to graduating college-bound student-athletes, Leavitt said ”it’s more important than ever to help provide resources for the youth of our community.”To that end, there’s work yet to be done before the Big Dawg Golf Tournament – a four-person best ball scramble – kicks off with a 2 p.m. shotgun start on Sept. 28.With 18 holes on the course and 16 sponsors committed, ”We are looking for two more (hole sponsors) by Sept. 23,” Leavitt said.More four-person teams are also needed and are encouraged to register online at creswellhsboosters.org, or by calling or emailing Kim Grubbs at 541-913-8843 or [email protected].”We can register teams up until the day before (the tournament),” Leavitt confirmed, noting that several Creswell teachers have joined teams and ”lots of student volunteers (are) helping with the event.”There is a $400 team fee; raffle ticket, golf towel, golf carts and dinner are included, and golfers are eligible for prizes, raffles and contests such as Longest Drive and Closest to the Pin.After working up an appetite on the golf course, participants will enjoy complimentary burgers with all the fixings. Contest prizes will be awarded and raffle tickets drawn during dinner, and Friday, Sept. 27 is also the deadline to make tax-deductible donations of goods or services to be awarded as prizes. The grand prize for the tournament’s winning team is courtesy of Original Grain, premier maker of wood and steel watches: ”Each team member will receive a watch, a duffle and a T-shirt from Original Grain,” Leavitt said, noting that second- and third-place team prizes would also be awarded. In addition to Original Grain, prizes – about 30 so far – have been donated by Emerald Valley Golf & Resort, Fiddler’s Green, The Bean Hopper, Figaro’s Pizza, Grocery Outlet-Cottage Grove, Safeway, Creswell Liquor Store, LouDella Engraving and Gifts, and Creswell Wellness Center.Hole sponsors include Emerald Valley Dental, Thornton Orthodontics, Fetter’s Construction LLC, Marple Excavation, Halvorson Contracting, Oregon RV (two holes), Creswell Wellness Center, Boulder Creek Excavation, Moman Lumber, Grocery Outlet Cottage Grove, BAT
