Personal and season records abounded as the Bulldogs competed in their final track and field meet before districts.
Gauge Smith set PR’s in winning the 100m in 11.15a and the 200m in 22.31a, and Nick Bronson won both hurdles events as Pleasant Hill hosted Creswell and Harrisburg for a league meet on May 1.
Bronson won the 110m high hurdles in 15.24a (PR) and the 300m intermediate hurdles in 42.68a. Christian Tucker won the 400m in 55.48a, Josiah Lee won the 1500m in 4:47.61, and the 4x400m relay team of Grant Marshall, Tucker, Brandon Moehlmann and Cam Nguyen won in 3:45.63.
Kendyl Seiber won the girls’ 100m high hurdles in 18.48a (PR) and Shelby Lamm won the 200m in 27.74a (SR).
In other scoring finishes, Nguyen placed second in the 800m in 2:19.07 (PR), Moehlmann placed third in 2:19.55, Trevor Harrold placed fourth in 2:32.91 (PR) and Jackson Velarde placed fifth in 2:38.54 (PR); Devin Johnson placed third in the 200m in 23.62a (PR) and Andrew Cox placed fifth in 25.06a (PR); and Marshall placed third in the 400m in 58.48a (PR), Lee placed fourth in 59.39a (PR) and Hugo Taura placed fifth in 1:00.55a (PR).
Velarde placed third in the 1500m in 5:00.16, Jackson Parker placed fourth in 5:06.41 and Chance Hemenway placed fifth in 5:18.87; Cox placed third in the 110m hurdles in 18.83 (PR) while Caden Walker placed fourth in 21.74a and third in the 110m hurdles in 57.10a; and the 4x100m relay team of Johnson, Bronson, Payden Criddle and Cox placed third in 46.76a.
Reece German placed second in the shot put in 31-10.50 (PR); Gonzalo Cardenas placed fifth in the discus at 81-08; Criddle tied for fourth in the high jump at 5-04; and Marshall placed second in the triple jump at 40-05.50, Cox placed fourth at 38-11 (PR) and Jude Layton placed fifth at 35-07 (PR).
Lamm placed second in the 100m in 13.30a; Seiber placed second in the 300m hurdles in 52; 85a and in the javelin at 71-04; Audrey Hecker placed third in the javelin at 62-06 (PR) and Jessalynn Aiken placed fifth at 40-07 (SR); and the 4x400m relay team of Seiber, Allison Smathers, Hannah Bettis and Lamm placed third in 58.76a.
Hecker placed fourth in the shot at 21-08 (PR); Merrily Arnold placed fifth in the long jump at 13-02; and Harmony Goodman placed fifth in the 800m in 3:01.67.
The Bulldogs also competed in the Wally Ciochetti Invitational in Cottage Grove on May 3, where the boys were the top-performing 3A team, placing seventh.
Smith won the 400m in 50.65a (PR), placed second in the 200m in 22.92a and fourth in the 100m in 11.60a; Bronson placed second in the 110m hurdles in 15.99a and third in the 300m hurdles in 42.75.
Lamm placed second in the 200m in 27.59a (SR) and fourth in the 100m in 13.58a; Bettis placed sixth in the 100m hurdles in 17.69a.
With so many recent peak performances, Coach Jonathan Ferguson said prospects are good as Creswell competes for state berths at this week’s 3A Special District 4 Championships in Sutherlin.
“Our boys’ team has a strong chance to win the district meet,” Ferguson said. “If they make it through the meet injury-free and perform at the level they’ve been performing at, I think we come out with a team victory.”
