Lowell girls lose to undefeated Monroe, 40-63

Lowell fell to 8-7 overall and 1-4 in league play with a 63-40 girls basketball setback Saturday to visiting Monroe. The Lady Dragons moved to 5-0 in Central Valley Conference play.
Lucy Plahn closed the first period with a pair of baskets to leave the Red Devils trailing 12-10.
Nature Letts banked in a shot to tie the game at 12-12, but Lowell trailed the rest of the game.
Leading 22-18 following a pair of Katie Chapman free throws, the Lady Dragons closed the half with 10 straight points to open a 32-18 halftime advantage.
A pair of free throws and rebound basket by Jenna Martini cut the lead to 32-22, but Lowell trailed 42-28 after three quarters. Martini scored six points in the period.
Martini was the leading scorer with 12 points. Plahn added 10, Katie Chapman and Letts six each and Kylee Johnson four.
