Break-in leads to axe attack

A local transient was hit with an axe in the arm, after accidentally entering the wrong house on Harvey Road last Friday.Around 3:42 a.m. on Nov. 23, Lane County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a man attempting to enter a house on the 83600 block of North Harvey Road.
The first call to 911 was made by a woman, telling police a man was coming through her window. The second call was a man, stating he had hit the intruder with an axe.
What police found during the investigation was that the intruder believed he was entering his friends’ residence, and he misidentified the house. He was talking on the phone with his friend during the intrusion, but his friend actually lived several doors down, police said. The residents of the involved address confronted the male after he left and attempted to reenter the property, police said.
Then, the transient man, “made movements toward the resident that caused him to fear he was charging him, and the transient was hit with the ax in the process, sustaining a wound to his arm,” Creswell’s Sergeant Scott Denham said in a release. He was transported to the emergency room and treated for a non-life threatening injuries.
No charges have been filed at this time and the case has been sent to the Lane County District Attorney’s Office for review.
