OPAL LOUISE COOK – FEB. 1, 1936 – NOV. 11, 2018
Elaine Alden Marek, 89, of Creswell peacefully passed away at 8 p.m. on Nov. 1 from renal failure, with family at her side. She was born before dawn in Glendale, Calif., in the loving arms of her parents James and Clara Sartelle. The family moved from Hollywood, Calif., to Creswell to an old farmhouse on Bear Creek Road when she was 12 years old. She attended the old Bear Creek School House with her mother driving all the kids to school. She graduated from Creswell High School, which was originally located where the middle school is now. She married Ernan Marek; they had four children. She loved music, art and participation in the community and church. She loved serving on the local election board during elections. She was a member of T.O.P.S. for years and tried her hand at being a door-to-door saleswoman for Watkins, Fuller Brush and Avon before moving on to making beautiful wedding cakes. She belonged to the Eugene Women’s Choir Society, the Porcelain and the China Painting Clubs. She was an adventure in the making and my dad used to coin a phrase: ”Never a Dull Moment.” She was preceded in death by her baby brother, Richard; husband, Ernan Marek; father, James Sartelle Sr.; grandson, Michael; brother, James Sartelle Jr.; and mother, Clara Sartelle. She is survived by sons Richard (Charity) and Jamie (Thelma); daughters Betsy (Dave) and Chris (Frank); eight grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren. Musgrove Family Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. There will be a viewing on Friday Nov. 16 from 2 to 5 p.m. The memorial service will be held Saturday, Nov. 17, at 11 a.m. At the Creswell Church of Christ, 380 Kings Row, Creswell. We would also like to thank the Riverbend Hospice Care for the loving care and comfort given to my mom and the family.
