Lowell cross country team begins season with race in Cottage Grove

LOWELL – Lowell’s cross country team opened its season in a two mile race two weeks ago at Cottage Grove.
This is the second year the sport has returned to Lowell.
Coach Jill Chapman said they brought the sport back last year and this year they have added more kids.
”We have a growing enrollment so needed to create more opportunities for the kids.”
Lowell moved from 1A to 2A this year.
Katie Chapman finished second in the girls race with a time of 14:33.
”I like to run. Getting to state would be an awesome experience,” said Chapman.
She was joined by McKenzie Smith who placed 21st with a time of 17:40.
In the boys race, Sam Smith placed 27th (14:33) and Gabe Carroll 32nd (14:40).
Lowell grad Cody Brooks ran in the open race.
