Dear Editor,
I would like to thank the Friends of the Cottage Grove Carousel for inviting Middlefield Oaks Senior Living Community to come and visit the carousel up-close and personal. They really enjoyed seeing the horses, rabbits and antelope. I loved the looks on some of their faces as they sat on the horses and started laughing like little kids again.
The memories that came flooding back upon seeing the carousel was a joyous event for us. They talked about their first carousel rides as small children and how it was the biggest ride around, to taking their own children to their first carousel rides.
Each resident had a favorite one there. One picked a palomino horse because it looked like the one from Mary Poppins, another chose the bunny because it was unique as well as a spotted black horse because it looked like one from their childhood. The blue horse painted by the high school was a couple people’s favorite just for its bright color.
While our bus ride to the carousel was quiet with thoughts of what it was going to look like… the bus ride home was very loud and joyous, talking about more memories and how they can’t wait to see it all up and running. We also talked about when the motor runs how we would love to come and ride the carousel, and maybe tag team that evening with Magnolia Gardens.
