Every two years citizens of Creswell elect four people to serve on the city council; three are elected as councilors and one is elected mayor. For the past three election cycles you have selected me to serve as mayor, and it has been one of my greatest privileges to do so. This election cycle I will not be running for a fourth-term; in six years as mayor I have seen tremendous growth in the council, major goals accomplished by the City, and felt great pride representing my hometown in Lane County and throughout the State of Oregon. Thank you so much for allowing me to serve as your mayor.
How can you know what your council is doing for the good of our city? The very best way is to attend council meetings. The council meets twice each month on Monday evenings. On the first Monday after the first Tuesday, the council meets to receive staff reports and make city decisions. The meeting begins with a public forum, where any member of the public may speak to the council on any subject they desire. The next regular council meeting is scheduled for Sept. 10 at 7 p.m.
The council meets a second time each month for a work session. The agenda for work sessions includes committee reports, presentations and discussion of policy development and projects that are ongoing. Well-thought-out policies and projects often take months, sometimes even years of study and discussion before good decisions can be made. Monthly work sessions provide the council with the many hours needed to listen to the public, receive information from staff and carefully consider decisions that will have a lasting impact on the quality of living here in Creswell. The next Council work session is scheduled for Aug. 27 at 6 p.m.
The City of Creswell has a strong council. I am pleased be part of this seven-member group that works diligently to make Creswell a safe, livable and attractive community, while retaining our unique small-town atmosphere. We are your city council, and you are always welcome! Please consider joining us for one of our coming meetings and find out for yourself what is happening in Creswell, ”The Friendly City.”
