Dear Editor,
Our community of Lorane, Oregon has commissioned a large mural to be painted and unveiled on Aug. 12, 2018. Two of our local, professional artists, Karen Pidgeon and Alix Mosieur, have been working on it since last fall.
The design has been patterned after the local flora, fauna, natural resources and economical development that has made up Lorane’s history through more than 130 years. In the center will be a pictorial map that will connect that history (stagecoach routes and past economy) with features of the area today, including roads, organizations, businesses and recreational areas.
Artist Karen Pidgeon has been working with Lane County historians and authors Pat Edwards, Douglas P. Card and David Turner to make sure that what is depicted is not only accurate, but reflects the area’s history.
When completed, it will be hung on a roofed structure designed for it, which sits in front of the Lorane Family Store, facing Territorial Road.
The unveiling will be held at 3 p.m. on Aug. 12 in conjunction with Lorane’s annual Community Picnic (held from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m.), sponsored by the Lorane Grange, and the Lorane Ice Cream Social (held from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.), hosted by the Lorane Fire Department.
