Springfield residents can pledge to ‘scoop the poop’ and enter canine calendar contest

Do you live in Springfield? Do you pick up your pet’s waste? Your dog could be featured in the 2019 Canines for Clean Water calendar. This year, the City of Springfield is encouraging residents to submit photos of their rescued or adopted dogs, with the 2019 calendar theme being ”Rescue the River.”
Many people may not realize that pet waste left on the ground can get washed into storm drains, which lead directly to our local streams and rivers. Pet waste contains bacteria and parasitic organisms that, when washed into local waterways, can cause contamination.
The calendar contest runs from May 21 through June 3, 2018. To enter, dog owners must live in Springfield and pledge to pick up after their canine friend. Springfield residents may enter their dog either via email or on Facebook:
Visit facebook.com/SpringfieldOR and post a photo of your dog, with #ScoopthePoop #SpringfieldOregon in the text.
Or, email a photo of your dog to [email protected] and include in your email: #ScoopthePoop #SpringfieldOregon.
Full contest details are available at www.springfieldstreams.org. The 2019 Canines for Clean Water calendar will be available for free in November, while supplies last.
