MEDFORD – The Eugene Challengers’ run in the American Legion AAA state baseball tournament in Medford ended with a 5-3 loss to the Tigard Barbers on Tuesday night.
Eugene dropped its opener to Hillsdale before beating Salem and Corvallis. Tigard sent Eugene home from the double-elimination tournament and the Barbers advanced to regionals in Medford.
Three Thurston graduates helped the Challengers make a postseason run.
Shortstop Brock Johnson walked twice and scored a run in the loss to the Barbers. He was 4-for-10 with five runs scored, five walks, three RBIs and two stolen bases in four games.
Catcher Braden Corgain was 0-for-2 with a walk against the Barbers. He went 1-for-8 with a walk and an RBI while also pitching four scoreless innings during the tournament.
Pitcher Kyle Miller allowed one earned run in 6 2/3 innings to get the win in a 9-1 victory over Corvallis. He struck out eight while allowing five hits.
Miller will return for his sophomore season at Linn-Benton Community College and Corgain will be a redshirt freshman at Lewis & Clark State College. Johnson will play his freshman season at Bushnell University.
