The Chronicle is grateful for the many random acts of kindness recently:
• Our landlord, Alan Bennett, reacted swiftly to an odorous situation – literally. We began to smell a sulfur-like odor a week ago in the newsroom, but could not find the source for several days. Al contacted NW Natural gas, which sent a crew member out to investigate. Ultimately, he suggested that the smell was coming from an electrical charger, up on the shelf in the back corner. ”I probably get 15 of these calls a year,” he said. We were skeptical.
With input and support from our business neighbors, Scott and Chelsea Pisani, and Ed Gunderson, we continued to rule out other potential causes.
It turned out the electrical box had batteries inside that had deteriorated, causing the odor. And that was the good news, actually.
The NW Natural crews found a small issue with pressure in our building’s gas line. And further investigation by them revealed a small leak in an underground pipe cap.
The crew couldn’t have been more professional or courteous as they dug up a small patch of parking lot, and then repaired it within an hour or so after finding and fixing the small leak.
Thanks to all involved in discovering and fixing the leak and keeping us safe!
• Michelle Amberg and Maddie Phillips were generous with their time the past few weeks, helping me better understand how our city government, planning, and record requests function. There are a lot of projects bubbling and, hopefully, coming to the surface soon.
• The Lane County Sheriff’s Office has been a terrific source of news and information for The Chronicle. Because the Sheriff’s office is our public safety team in Creswell, it’s even more important. Thank you to Tiffany Monroe and the entire team for your help and cooperation in covering this important area of our community.
• Robert Baguio has joined our Sales team, and is helping us expand our brand through face-to-face marketing efforts. He’s a great ambassador for southern Lane County, particularly from Creswell to Springfield.
• Creswell High School’s new print shop delivered on The Chronicle’s order of 50 sweatshirts and hoodies with our new logo. They look terrific, and the students did a great job. Thanks to Ginger Jones and Jack Stepp for their help and guidance.
• Su Liudahl was kind enough to spend more than an hour with me, helping me better understand the role Creswell First! plays in the community. It has a wonderful history, and better future.Of course, we discussed all of the exciting activities at the library, was well as upcoming initiatives and book-club themes.
