Millers’ Hall secures state title in discus

SPRINGFIELD and THURSTON competed in the OSAA State Championships on Friday and Saturday. Springfield’s Sailor Hall won the Millers a state title in the discus, throwing a personal best of 137’ 1”, the second-longest throw in Oregon this year. Hall finished third in the event as a freshman, but did not compete last year. She also finished 5th in the shot put. Violet Moran in the girls javelin, Amar’e Viquelia in the boys long jump, and Jack Sayre in the 300m hurdles all finished 8th in their respective events. Thurston finished tied for third in the team score portion of the State Championships and earned a 3rd-place trophy. They were led by Addison Nelson in the triple jump and Brooklyn Anderson in the 100m hurdles, each of whom won state titles. Finishing top 10 behind them in those same events were Kelsie Raven in both events (3rd in triple jump, 4th in hurdles), and Taylor Suiter in the triple jump (9th). Raven also finished 5th in the high jump and 10th in the long jump. Suiter also finished 5th in the 300m hurdles. On the boys jumping side, Keanan Weber finished 6th in the triple jump and Lucas Wadley finished 5th in the boys long jump. Other Colts to finish top 10 were Carson Buergey (3rd in 800m, 9th in 1500m), Scotlyn Curtis (6th in discus, 7th in shot put), Emmie Gerdrum (6th in 200m), and Anderson (7th in 100m). Justin Fisher also finished 12th in the 200m less than six months after a major knee surgery.

COTTAGE GROVE had seven athletes compete in the OSAA State Championships on Friday and Saturday. On Friday, Makya Alsup and Carissalynn Height finished 2nd and 3rd, respectively, in the girls javelin. Ella Cardwell finished 2nd in the girls 3000m on Friday, and 3rd in the 1500m on Saturday. Lucas O’Hara finished 6th in the high jump, and Micah Hanke finished 6th in the 800m.
