EUGENE – On May 13 at approximately 4 p.m., Lane County deputies responded to reports of a juvenile in crisis on the roof of a building at Lane Community College.
During an emergency response, deputies established contact with the distressed individual and gathered information from the family about the situation’s triggers.
Two members of the Lane County Sheriff’s Crisis Negotiation Team engaged with the juvenile, focusing on building rapport and de-escalating the situation.
Fire and EMS personnel were also on scene with emergency equipment, including a ladder truck.
After more than 20 minutes of negotiation, the juvenile safely descended from the roof around 5 p.m. and was subsequently transported to a local hospital for evaluation.
The Lane County Sheriff’s Office extends its gratitude to LCC Public Safety and the Fire and EMT personnel who assisted in the operation.
DUII leads to arrest
On May 12 at approximately 6:30 a.m., Lane County Sherrif’s deputies initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle driving recklessly on Delta Highway.
The driver, later identified as 34-year-old Jeffrey Allen McGee, fled, leading deputies on a short pursuit eastbound on Beltline Road toward Interstate-5. After losing control and colliding with another vehicle, McGee attempted to flee on foot across the interstate, forcing motorists to stop.
Deputies apprehended him nearby. McGee was arrested and booked at the Lane County jail on multiple charges, including eluding police, third-degree assault, hit and run, reckless driving, and DUII.
