Old Schoolhouse update: Foundation, porch replacement report

Creswell Heritage Foundation board members and volunteers are currently completing site work at Old Schoolhouse, but the Foundation and Porch Replacement Project is otherwise complete. We want to share some of the details of how this was made possible.
The project cost $107,116.65 in contractor and architect fees. Of this, $69,000 was covered by eight grants: $25,000 from the Oregon Community Foundation Fred W. Fields Fund; $20,000 from Oregon Parks and Recreation’s Preserving Oregon Fund; $10,000 and another $2,500 from the Kinsman Foundation; $5,000 from the Chambers Family Foundation; $2,500 from Lane County Historical Society; $2,400 from Cycle Oregon; and $1,600 from Lane County Cultural Coalition.
Board member Patty Birch also provided painting labor valued at $2,000 and an RV site for contractor lodging valued at $2,400. Site work valued at $2,575 was performed by board member Don Ehrich and other volunteers and included the use of a Bobcat provided by Bill Spencer. Architect Susan Licht donated $1,400 in travel time, and a materials discount of $521 was donated by Cascade Home Center.
Additional funding came from the gift provided by the City of Creswell at the time the building was transferred to CHF in March 2018. We also had donations of time, materials and money made by those listed on our First 100 Supporters list published in The Creswell Chronicle on May 30.
All of these elements came together for the success of our project. The next phase of the restoration will be the Exterior Restoration Project, which will include replacing the siding on the south side, constructing a new roof on the back room and adding a deck that will serve as a platform for an ADA ramp. It will also restore or replace all window frames and sills and deteriorated historic trim. We are now raising funds for that phase to be done in 2020.
We want to share some of the interesting findings of architect Susan Licht and contractor Cal Lewis as they studied and worked on the building over the course of the project. The public is invited to our Open House from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on July 4.
