HSSZ: The week ahead

THE MAIN EVENTS
■ Pleasant Hill welcomes 18 other teams, including Cottage Grove, Creswell and Springfield to the King of the Hill tournament on Saturday. Head coaches Dahn Nikitins (PH), Rich Herzog (CG), Jeff Cardwell (CHS) and Chase Wells (SHS) will all want good performances in front of a crowd that’s sure to have many of their home fans packed in.
■ Thurston’s big competition of the week is at the Earl Gillis Tournament (Newberg HS) on Friday. This meet comes on the heels of the Thurston boys and girls teams winning their respective groups at the Northwest Duals in Albany just after Christmas. On the girls side Rubie Winterburn (105), Kaylee Annis (110), Rachael Graves (115) and Kassidy Hadden (130) all went undefeated in the dual and should look to do well at the tournament this weekend. For the boys Kolton Malone (152) and Vaun Halstead (220) both look to stay undefeated on the season.
