After playing a live performance at the PNC Live Studio in Portland on Monday, Dominick Antonelli said he was told by multiple people that his music “uplifted their soul.”
“It’s so interesting that I can do that,” Antonelli said.
Antonelli, who plays at The Axe and Fiddle on Sunday night at 6, looks forward to sharing his special healing abilities with local fans.
“It’s amazing,” he said. “It’s something bigger than me playing music.”
Call it good vibes, call it good karma, or just call it good music; whatever it is, Antonelli is getting a good following during his 50-city national tour that he’s about a third of the way through.
He’s on his own – in his 2002 Toyota Sienna, with two guitars and a bed in the back.

“I’m by myself. I do all the driving, the soundchecking, the performing, and selling merch,” Antonelli said. “It’s filling me up.”
He has a brand-new album called “The Only Road Home” that Antonelli refers to as “the gateway to the rest of my musical career.” Aside from the title track, the highlights from the album include “Thank You, Teacher,” “Ceaseless Music,” and “”Glass Ceilings.”
‘“Glass Ceilings”’ talks about psychedelics and my experience with them,” Antonelli said. “They opened my mind and brought beauty into my life, but they also stunted me and they made me go back and I kept hitting this glass ceiling. … The teacher said it was like a credit card, you get the experience now, but you still have to pay for it.”
Antonelli’s sound on the guitar is unique, largely because he uses hundreds of alternate tunings.
He didn’t become a musician in the traditional fashion.
“When i was 12, I started playing because i wanted to hang out with my dad,” Antonelli said. “Looking back, I wanted to process things from my childhood, so guitar became instrumental in processing my way through that.
“But I didn’t look at myself as a guitar player for many years.”
Now, he has gotten past those feelings.
He knows he’s a guitar player.
And Cottage Grove will get the privilege of seeing exactly how good he is Sunday night.
