CRESWELL – Creswell will appoint a new municipal judge and city attorney, replacing Attorney Ross Williamson, who began serving as the City Attorney for Creswell in 2011, and municipal judge R Scott Palmer, who has served in Creswell for over 40 years.
Mayor Nick Smith said he and city manager Vincent Martorello will negotiate an employment agreement with the selected candidate for city attorney, and authorized Smith and Vincent, along with the city attorney, to negotiate an employment agreement with the selected candidate for municipal judge. Martorello contacted both candidates the following morning to start the process. The names of the candidates were not available publicly by press time.
Jesse London, the selected judge, has a background in legal practice and has served as a judge pro tempore in Veneta and Cottage Grove.
A judge pro tempore is a temporary judge appointed to serve in place of a regular one for a specific case or for a limited period. The term “pro tempore” is Latin for “for the time being.” London has also clerked for federal judges.
Martorello also said that the candidate for the city attorney is from the Local Government Law Group, the current firm for the city attorney. LGLG, based in Eugene, provides advice on legal and policy issues.
