SPRINGFIELD – The Springfield Utility Board (SUB) announced last week that it has received $9.6 million in funding from Oregon’s Safe Drinking Water Revolving Loan Fund for the McKenzie River Water Supply Project, which aims to enhance drinking water reliability and resiliency.
Of the award, about $3 million is a forgivable loan, while the rest is at low interest. The funding will support final project design and permitting and reimburse SUB for design costs incurred over the past year.
Greg Miller, SUB’s director of water engineering and operations, said the goal was to secure funding to minimize financial impacts on customers.
Administered by Business Oregon in partnership with the Oregon Health Authority, the revolving loan program is partly funded by the federal Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. It prioritizes projects that protect public health and improve drinking water systems affordably.
The McKenzie River Project will provide a resilient, high-quality water source, enhancing system reliability and ensuring safe drinking water for the community.
