SPRINGFIELD – A new wine lounge called downtown Springfield home last Friday night, with the opening celebration of Hersch Wine Lounge at 322 Main St.
Maddie and David Hersch had been looking for a new route for themselves, one where they could create their own business hours. When they learned Iris Vineyards, the previous wine bar that occupied the space, was closing in October last year, it checked all the boxes. Plus, they loved the previous wine bar.
“It was just something that we didn’t want to see go away, as we love coming in for a glass of wine,” David said.
“We really wanted to be able to keep a wine bar downtown,” said Maddie. “I love it. This is like our second place.”
A grand opening and ribbon-cutting celebration with the Springfield Chamber invited guests to sample local wine and explore the space. People filled the tables and the bar, then flooded out back into the covered outdoor area.
“It is unbelievably heartwarming to see so many people supporting us, and I am so grateful,” David said. “We are so grateful to be a part of this community. We love being a part of Springfield.”
Small boutique wineries are their focus. The Hersch wine selection is sourced from the Willamette Valley, and includes brands like Iris Vineyards, Sweet Cheeks, Joseph Jane, and Natalie’s Estate.
Maddie said the ultimate goal is to open another location and host events. The lounge is open on Tuesdays through Thursdays from 3 p.m. until 9 p.m., and on Friday through Sunday from noon to 10 p.m. Folks can inquire about private events at herschwinelounge.com.
