SPRINGFIELD – SUB board members last Wednesday held a monthly meeting and work session:
- Members went over board self-evaluations, emphasizing organizational elements and board functionality. They reviewed orientation for new board members, timely distribution of meeting materials, and adequate review time. Members also evaluated the board’s relationship with the general manager, Jeff Nelson. Questions in the evaluation included language around if the board works well together, goals for SUB, and whether board meetings are productive. “One of the things that I’m really pleased with is that the board actually does take a step to look at it as a self-evaluation process,” Nelson said. “I’m not seeing that being consistent with a lot of public agencies, so the fact that you are doing it, even though there may be areas that you want to tweak, it’s so impressive that an elective audience is doing that process.”
- An updated timeline for the GM recruitment process was presented by Nicole Dalke, human resources manager. Thirty-nine applications were submitted for the position from Jan. 2 to Feb. 8. “That’s really neat,” said board chair David Willis. A third-party consultant is being used to review semi-finalists before their interviews on March 11, starting at 3 p.m. Finalist interviews will be held in April.
- The SUB budget committee is also seeking applications, but with the GM recruitment taking priority, interviews for this position are being held off until approximately May. Executive Assistant Cindy Flaherty said ads for the position have been placed in The Register-Guard and The Chronicle. Board member John DeWenter suggested minor edits to the interview questions and clarified that interviewees will receive them when they arrive. There are no geographic restrictions for this position, although concerns were raised about the west side of Springfield being majorly represented in the current committee.
