Girls basketball recaps

■ SPRINGFIELD boosted its winning streak to 16 games and moved into the top spot in Class 5A with two wins last week. The Millers (17-1) routed No. 16 North Eugene (9-9) on Tuesday 88-33 before taking down No. 4 Crater (14-4) on Friday 73-52. Nuari “NuNu” Filipe was a standout on both nights, scoring 25 points against the Highlanders and 34 against the Comets. The Millers are leading the Midwestern League.

■ THURSTON dominated both its games last week. The No. 17 Colts beat No. 30 Churchill (4-16) on Tuesday 48-11 before routing No. 31 Ashland (3-14) on Friday. Thurston was projected to have a bounce-back week last week after going 1-4 in its prior five games. Despite the two wins, the Colts dropped two spots in the Class 5A state rankings. The Colts are fifth in the Midwestern League.

■ COTTAGE GROVE went 1-1 last week. On Tuesday, the No. 15 Lions took down No. 26 Marshfield (3-14) 57-32. Mariah Bailey led the way for the Lions in this game, scoring 25 points – including her 1,000th career point – on the way to the Lions’ victory. In addition to this, Makya Alsup recorded a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds. The Lions lost on Friday to No. 20 Junction City (6-13) 48-26. The Lions dropped one spot in the Class 4A state rankings. The Lions are third in the Sky Em League.

■ CRESWELL continued its hot streak last week, going 2-0. First, the No. 7 Bulldogs (14-6) beat their cross-town-rival No. 6 Pleasant Hill (15-5) 53-44. Elliette Kinney stood out in this game with 20 points and seven rebounds. On Friday, the Bulldogs took down No. 43 La Pine (3-16) 57-25. Mila Nguyen led the way with 18 points. Despite the two wins, the Bulldogs dropped two spots in the Class 3A state rankings. The Bulldogs are third in the Mountain Valley Conference.

■ PLEASANT HILL broke its six-game winning streak last week as it went 1-2. First, the No. 6 Billies (15-5) fell to No. 7 Creswell (14-6) 53-44. The Billies then beat No. 26 Elmira (9-10) 48-35 before losing to No. 18 Westside (13-7) 33-19. The losses dropped the Billies three spots in the Class 3A state rankings. The Billies are second in the Mountain Valley Conference.
