EUGENE – During its first regular meeting of 2026, the Lane County Board of Commissioners appointed a chair and a vice chair. District 1 Commissioner Ryan Ceniga, who represents West Lane, was appointed as chair, while District 5 Commissioner Heather Buch, representing South Lane, including Creswell and Cottage Grove, was appointed as vice chair.

“It is an honor to serve once again in a leadership position for the Board of County Commissioners,” Buch said. “We have significant challenges ahead of us as we navigate a need for more services during a time of shrinking resources. We also have a great deal of opportunity to work together to overcome those challenges and come out stronger on the other side.”
Buch, who served as chair of the board in 2020, led the County’s response to the Covid-19 pandemic and the Holiday Farm Fire.

Before her election in 2019, Buch ran a real estate business focused on affordable housing. She lives in Spencer Creek.
Commissioners designate one member as chair and another as vice chair during the first regular Board meeting of the year. The chair and vice chair preside over meetings and set the agendas.
District 2 Commissioner David Loveall, representing Springfield, was recognized for his leadership as chair in 2025.
