Cottage Grove: The Lions compete in the Phil Smith Memorial Invite in Junction City on Friday, Jan. 2 for the girls, and Saturday, Jan. 3 for the boys. Here, the Lions will compete alongside Elmira, Junction City, Marshfield, North Eugene, Rainier, Siletz Valley, Sisters, Siuslaw/Mapleton, Stayton, Taft, and Willamette. Look for Boston Kent (135) on Friday, who has placed in each of her meets up to this point. On Saturday, Jeffrey Conklin (138) has been a force for the Lions this season. He’s placed 1st in each of his first three meets, and could very well make it four.
Pleasant Hill: The Billies host the King of the Hill Invite on Saturday, Jan 3 against Churchill, Coquille, Gold Beach, and South Umpqua. Kamdyn Greene (120) placed 2nd at the Culver Invitational on Dec. 12-13. He, alongside Dean Scott (113) who paced 3rd there, will be a couple boys to watch on Saturday. For the girls, Zaira Duarte (126) won her bracket at the Culver Invitational while Mattie Peacock (158) placed second in her division. Look for them to recreate these performances with less competition on Saturday.
