A westbound Honda Accord, driven by 52-year-old Russell Fredrick Moncrief of Eugene, braked suddenly and was rear-ended by a westbound Chevrolet Silverado, operated by 52-year-old Scott Allen Zipprich of Elmira. This collision caused the Chevrolet to strike an eastbound Dodge Stratus, driven by 84-year-old Vincent George Canham of Eugene, head-on.
Moncrief was uninjured, while Zipprich was transported to a hospital with serious injuries. Canham was declared deceased after reaching the hospital, and a passenger in the Dodge, 77-year-old Rolf Bertel Johansson of Sweden, sustained minor injuries. The highway was closed for approximately 8 hours during the ongoing investigation.
On Friday, Nov. 7, shortly after 4 p.m., Springfield PD responded to a two-vehicle collision at Pioneer Parkway East and F Street. Officers found an unconscious female driver in one vehicle, who was later transported to a hospital but succumbed to her injuries.
Preliminary investigations indicate that a 2018 Hyundai Elantra was westbound on F Street when it was struck by a northbound 2010 Audi A6 on the driver’s side. The Springfield Police Department Major Accident Investigation Team is investigating; alcohol is not believed to be a factor. The name of the deceased is withheld pending next of kin notification.
