Lions’ Turner resigns as football coach

COTTAGE GROVE – Football coach Steve Turner submitted his resignation Friday, Nov. 7, effective immediately.

“I would like to say thank you for the opportunity that you gave me to serve as head football coach at Cottage Grove High School. I believe that together we improved the football program in many unseen ways. It still needs to continue to make changes in and around it, so that it can become a competitive team each and every year with a goal of being a state playoff team,” Turner said in a statement.

During his tenure over the past three seasons, Turner guided the Lions to the 3A Special District 3 league title last season. The Lions were reclassified to 4A after last season..

Athletic Director Garrett Bridgens expressed his gratitude and best wishes:

“I want to thank coach Turner for his dedication to our student-athletes and to rebuilding our football program’s culture,“ Bridgens said.
