Supportive events dot Family Caregivers Month

November marks National Family Caregivers Month, spotlighting the vital role family caregivers play in their loved ones’ lives. According to recent AARP data, approximately 790,000 adults in Oregon – about 23% of the adult population – serve as family caregivers. These individuals provide essential support, enabling their parents, spouses, or other loved ones to live independently at home and in their communities. Their efforts amount to approximately $8.7 billion in unpaid care each year.

There are several upcoming events held virtually that are aimed at supporting and connecting caregivers throughout the state:

■ Adaptive & Gentle Yoga: Nov. 5-26, 10 a.m. A weekly virtual adaptive yoga class designed for health and wellness.
■ Caregiving Tele-Town Hall: Nov. 13, 2 p.m. Join experts for insights and an opportunity to ask questions. Call toll-free at 855-962-1510.
■ Strengthen Your Bones: Nov. 17, 12 p.m. A bone-strengthening virtual class led by American Council on Exercise-certified instructor Mitch Menik, focusing on dynamic standing, stretching, and chair exercises.
■ Caregiving Wellness Workshop: Nov. 18, 12 p.m. This virtual workshop, part of a series on essential health aspects as we age, will provide practical strategies for caregivers, including self-care tools.
■ Intro to Estate Planning Resources and Tools: Nov. 26, 12 p.m. A virtual overview of key documents in estate planning, along with information on free and low-cost resources to get started.
