Drifters ’26 schedule features Canada trip

SPRINGFIELD – The Springfield Drifters announced their 2026 schedule this past Thursday – featuring 29 home games and a trip to Victoria, British Columbia, to face the HarbourCats on June 12.

“I think it’s really exciting to get to go to Canada this year,” said Jasmine Williams, Drifters’ assistant general manager. “It’s not something we get to do every year, so this will be an awesome opportunity for our players to travel and play in a different country.”

The matchup with the HarbourCats will be Springfield’s fifth series of the season. The Drifters open their season at the Bend Elks on May 29. The team returns to Hamlin on June 2 to face Yakima Valley and Bellingham in consecutive series before heading to Wenatchee, Wash., to face the AppleSox on June 9.

Springfield went 2-4 against Yakima Valley in both the 2024 and ’25 seasons. The Drifters have scheduled six additional games this upcoming season.
After the trip to Canada, Springfield returns to Hamlin on June 17 for its second homestand of the season. The team faces a Cascade Collegiate League Showcase team to open non-league play, followed immediately by games against the Portland Pickles – at Portland on June 18 then home against the Pickles on June 19.

Springfield plays just under 54% of its total games at Hamlin. This is one more home game than in 2025, and two more than ’24.

From June 23-28 Springfield will be away, facing Walla Walla and Ridgefield respectively before coming home to play the Marion Berries on June 30.
The team then has a short road stint in Corvallis, but quickly returns home to face Walla Walla and Corvallis at Hamlin from July 7-12.

After the Corvallis series, Springfield heads to the WCL All-Star Game on July 17 followed by two consecutive road series. The team doesn’t return home until July 24, when they face Marion for the second time.

The Drifters are at Yakima Valley on July 28 for their final road series of the season before returning home to play Ridgefield and Bend to finish the 2026 season at home. The Drifters’ regular season concludes Aug. 5 against the Elks.

The Drifters are seeking their first playoff berth.

“We did so many great things last summer, and I can’t wait to build on that and create another summer of unforgettable memories for our local community in 2026,” Williams said.

Thurston boys’ wrestling compete in Iowa event

Thurston wrestling assistant coach Destin Greenstreet took seven boys to Des Moines, Iowa, this past weekend for the Brian Keck Preseason Nationals. Thurston brothers Michael and Lucas Salas-Sanchez placed 5th and 6th respectively, in their divisions.

“I’ve just been really proud of all these kids. We’re kind of building something there at Thurston right now with our wrestling program. And I’m really proud about it,” Greenstreet said.

The five other boys Thurston brought to Iowa were Samuel and Sawyer Greenstreet, Truman Winningham, Hayden Melendrez and Tanner Brumble. Despite none of them placing nationally, the team put up a strong effort all around.

“Tanner Brumble played really well. He double-bracketed in both the high school division and elite showcase division, and came real close to placing in both of them, which is awesome,” Greenstreet said. “So we’re really proud of the way they all competed. It was a lot of fun.”
