Lions roar to three straight wins; Creswell and Springfield shine in league play

In Class 4A boys soccer, Cottage Grove earned a three-game winning streak after beating Marshfield, Junction City, and North Bend. The Lions overcame a 56%-43% time of possession deficit to be Marshfield 2-1. The Lions had 14 shots to Marshfield’s 9 shots, and 6 corner kicks to Marshfield’s 5. The Lions then won 5-0 vs. Junction City last Thursday and 4-2 over North Bend on Monday. Againist Junction City, the Lions had 55% percent of possession to Junction City 44% percent. Cottage Grove total shot 32 with 17 on target to Junction City 12 total shot with 9 on target. Cottage Grove had 1 corner to Junction City 3.

In Class 3A, Creswell went 1-0 last week with Special District opponent Sisters, winning 4-0. Last year, the Bulldogs also beat the Outlaws 4-0. The victory positions Creswell favorably for a league title; they trail Class 2A Croshill Christian / Jefferson by one victory in the standings. Pleasant Hill earned its first victory last week against Elmira and went 1-1 for the week. The week started with a 4-0 loss to the dominant Class 2A Croshill Christian / Jefferson team. The Billies edged out the Falcons 2-1 on Thursday.

Lastly, in 5A, Springfield edged out North Eugene 1-0 last week and Thurston lost to the Ashland Grizzlies 2-0 last week in their first Midwestern League game of the season. The Grizzlies lead the league at 1-0 and 7-1-1 overall.

Kicking off: The Lions replay Marist Catholic on Monday as they begin to wrap up the Sky-Em League. Earlier this season, the Lions lost 3-2 to the Spartan. The Lions have a track record of splitting the season series against the Spartans.

#53 PLEASANT HILL (1-5-1)

Kicking off: The Billies play their most difficult game yet in Crosshill Christian/Jefferson on Thursday. The Eagles are leading in Special District 3 at 4-0 and 8-1 overall. Up next, the Billies play Siuslaw / Maple on Tuesday, who are 3-1 in league.

#11 CRESWELL (7-2)

Kicking off: The Bulldogs play the La Pine Hawks on Tuesday and East Linn Christian on Thursday. Both teams are lower ranked in Special District 3 and this should be a walk in the park for the Bulldogs, who are sitting at second place in the league standings.

#16 SPRINGFIELD (3-3-1)

Kicking off: The Millers face Churchill to Silke Field in their first Midwestern League showdown. Last year, after the Millers lagged in non-league games, they rallied in league play to earn the Midwestern League title for 2024. Churchill remains a formidable competitor.

#26 THURSTON (3-6-1)

Kicking off: The Colts play the North Eugene Highlanders this week. After a mixed non-league season, the Colts hope to gain momentum in the Midwestern League.
